Limerick Jazz Festival Friends Scheme
The sixth annual Limerick Jazz Festival will take place from Thursday the 21st of September to Sunday the 24th of September, 2017. Once again, Limerick Jazz will be presenting an outstanding mix of Irish and international musicians and a programme of events that combines quality, accessibility and great value for money.
Our international artists this year are multi award-winning saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch and Acid-Jazz legends The James Taylor Quartet. From Ireland, Limerick Jazz welcomes back The Dublin City Jazz Orchestra & special guest vocalists Pia Dunne and Keith McDonald for a programme of music entitled: “Independence Airs”, which features the most popular songs of 1917 in their original arrangements. Coming right up to date, on Sunday afternoon @ Dolan’s Warehouse, Limerick Jazz is delighted to welcome one of Ireland’s hottest new live acts Booka Brass.
As in previous years, there will be free performances across the city over the festival. On the evening of September 21st, the Jazz Trail will feature live bands and DJs across six Limerick City venues. We will be contributing to Culture Night on Friday 22nd with a free concert at the Limerick City Gallery of Art. And on Saturday, there will be a free children’s music workshop @ Ormston House, an open-air concert @ Chez le Fab and a Music Workshop with Soweto Kinch @ The Hunt Museum.
Limerick has one of the most active Jazz scenes in Ireland. Limerick Jazz has been bringing outstanding Jazz performers to the city since the 1980s and Limerick Jazz Workshop has been providing Jazz Education to the people of Limerick since 2007.
Limerick Jazz Festival is working to capitalize on this track record by creating an event with national and international reach. The successful regeneration of UK cities such as Glasgow and Liverpool shows that a strong cultural profile is vital in transforming a city’s image and outlook. As we reach our sixth year, we are a well-established part of Limerick’s cultural calendar and as such we are receiving plenty of positive national and international media coverage.
The festival is being promoted by Limerick Jazz and is supported by the Arts Council, Limerick City and County Council and Failte Ireland. We are also pleased to welcome Stellwagen Group as our main sponsor.
To make this all happen we need your support. A typical festival in Ireland is funded by grant aid, ticket sales and private financial support. By becoming a friend of the Limerick Jazz Festival, you will play a vital role in our success and enjoy great music by highly acclaimed, world-class performers.
To become a festival friend for 2017 costs €300. The benefits are:
- Six complimentary tickets for any combination of this year’s concerts.
- Two of these tickets can be traded for tickets to multi Grammy Award winner Cassandra Wilson on Saturday, November 4th, @ Dolan’s Warehouse. This will be the last night of Cassandra’s first Irish tour.
- Priority booking for two places at our very popular free music workshop for kids. This takes place @ Ormston House from 10.30 a.m – 12.30 p.m on Saturday the 23rd.
- Acknowledgement on the Limerick Jazz Festival Website.
